Achieving Tight Tolerances Metal Stamping

Collaborative discussions with the customer helped Ultra fully understand the functionality and features of the thrust ring. It was identified that the part’s tabs required a tight tolerance of no more than .062” to achieve correct alignment with threads during the multi-assembly process.

Achieving Manufacturing Cosmetic Standards

This stainless steel part is metal stamped in our 800-ton press using a 144-inch progressive stamping die that successfully removes sharp edges and cleans the surface areas.

Types of Metal Stamping Services Include:

  • Bending
  • Blanking
  • Deep drawing
  • Coining
  • Curling
  • Hemming
  • Ironing
  • Piercing
  • Cutting

How Precision Metal Stampings Work

Here's a high-level view of how precision metal stampings create high quality parts:

  1. First, we design the die, if requested, and test the prototype.
  2. Then, the stamping die is attached to the stamping machine set up for your part.
  3. Multiple parts go through the stamping process, aided by manual, robotic, or progressive techniques.
  4. When your product leaves the stamping machine, it’s ready to use. Note that some parts use more than one stamping machine and may have a manual assembly component, if so designed.
  5. Quality control is built into the production process.
  6. Additional finishing and manual assembly services are also available.

What Are the Advantages of Precision Metal Stampings?

This precise metal forming process has numerous advantages over traditional techniques. You can use it to produce complex metal parts efficiently.

Benefits of Precision Metal Stamping Include:

  • Cost Efficiency: Because of the accuracy of the process, precision metal stampings allow you to increase production levels and decrease labor costs.
  • Less Scrap Material: You can't completely eliminate scrap metal in the production process. However, due to the efficient nature of this process, there's less scrap metal created, resulting in a cost-effective production solution.
  • High Quality: Each product is accurate and of high quality, with extremely low error rates.
  • Highly Automated Process: Processes you can automate include nut insertion, die welding, in-die tapping and many more.
